Owiwi - Galeria de Arte Afrikana is an African art gallery in Brazil founded to promote artistic and cultural exchange between Brazil and the African continent. The word Owiwi means Owl in the Yoruba Language. The owl has a binocular vision that permits a greater sense of depth perception necessary for low-light hunting. The Owl’s far vision, particularly in low light, is exceptionally good. As such, African artists have binocularly perceived and appreciate art as not merely aesthetics, but as an integral part of humanity, accounting for the impacting and functional impulse in paintings, fabric designs, architecture, poetry, music, dance, insignia and other realms.

This is the force that drives us at the Owiwi – African Art Gallery to create a new platform for both African and artists in the Latin America to interact through various educational programs we offer. This include residency programs for talented African and Latin American artists in order for them to put forth purpose, feelings or thought into a sensuous medium while interacting and communicating not only to the Brazilian society, but also to the entire World.

Our Gallery will be receiving artworks from talented artists in all media and styles for upcoming exhibition season. If you are looking for gallery representation and to have a Solo Show in Brazil, submit your artworks that we may consider the finest of your artistic expression so that we present it to the public, gallery directors, curators and collectors.

Accepted Artworks include Painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, digital art, installations and mixed media. Submitted works are not required to conform to any particular medium, style, theme or concept, artwork dimensions may be of any size.
